The Commonwealth has two types of employment systems: Civil Service and Non-Civil Service. The Department of Drug & Alcohol Programs (DDAP) offers both types of employment depending on the job classification.
In order to be considered for Non-Civil Service employment, prospective candidates must complete an online application at www.employment.pa.gov
. Upon completing the application, the applicant's name will be placed on employment lists for all positions for which they qualify. When a job opening becomes available, the Bureau of State Employment refers names on the list for consideration.
To be considered for Civil Service employment, prospective candidates must participate in an examination program. If the applicant receives a passing score and meets the minimum experience and training requirements as determined by the State Civil Service Commission
, the applicant's name is placed on an employment list in order of test score. This list is used to conduct interviews and make selections.
